On heartaches and breakups…

It’s a sad, sad news today. Long-time couple Tiffany Hsu and Ethan Ruan have now gone their separate ways. They’ve been together for 8 long years and everyone thought the two were already altar-bound. The 32-year old model-turned-actor was even quoted last year that he wanted to marry Tiffany the soonest possible. However, news are now swirling that the 30-year old model-actress has moved out of their love nest last month and has since moved in with her mother. When asked for comments, Tiffany said they have not officially broken up yet and is currently at a cooling off stage. Ethan responded the same and added that she still remains his only one.

There were many speculations as to why the lovebirds have decided to part ways. One of the reasons that keeps popping up is Ethan’s rumored inability to keep his zipper closed. He’s always been linked to different girls in the past although he denied involvement with any of them. Just recently, he was rumored with his co-star in Inspector Fan, 23-year old Chinese actress Zhou Dongyu who shot to fame through the movie Love Under the Hawthorne Tree, but both already denied the news. Another reason is his indecision to fully commit himself to their relationship, or in other words, his indecision to marry her. Right now, their friends and fans are fervently hoping that they will find their way back into each other’s arms again and that the final road will still have the two of them together.

If last year was the time when celebrity couples were getting married left and right, this year seems to be fast becoming the year that unmarried couples are breaking up. It was reported recently that 56-year old actress Bao Ma, Bowie Tsang’s mother, also broke up with 44-year old actor Wang Jian-Min, her boyfriend of two years. The reason was never disclosed although it was speculated that it’s because of the man’s mounting debts.

Bao Ma and Wang Jian-Min received much criticisms because of their 12-year age gap.

Another couple who’s being rumored to be on the way down to break up road is Amber Kuo and Tony Yang. Amber left an ambiguous message on her weibo saying, “I will give you my blessings everyday, blessings in your relationship and the road you will take.” This lead to rumors that she’s breaking up with Tony, her boyfriend of three years. It was said that the 33-year old actor’s parents have been pressuring the two of them to get married soon but the 29-year old actress is not ready yet for such a long-time commitment. Tony immediately denied the break up and assured everyone that they are still very much together, though he did admit that they are currently having difficulties in their relationship as they haven’t seen each other for almost six months now due to their busy schedules. He said they are doing everything they can right now to make their relationship work.

Amber Kuo and Tony Yang were never shy in displaying their affections for one another in public.

Goodbyes are never easy especially if the love is still there. It’s hard to throw in the towel if the heart is still willing to take another blow. But when is enough really enough? When should be the right time to say it’s really over? Is it ever right to wait for eight years or even longer only to find out in the end that it’s never meant to be? But then again, when did time ever define love?

“Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation…” – Khalil Gibran
