Okay, this has got to be one of the most shocking scandal that’s currently rocking the Korean industry. Pretty boy Kim Hyun Joong has been accused by his ex-girlfriend of beating her up in several occasions during their relationship. His ex-girlfriend, a certain Miss A has just recently filed assault charges against for the alleged beatings last week. Then just this last Tuesday, Kim Hyun Joong was called in by the police to answer to the alleged charges, and he actually admitted to one of the four assault cases file against him. That assault case he admitted to is the one where his Miss A ended up in the hospital for two weeks.
I’ve known him after watching (rather painstakingly) Boys Over Flowers a few years ago, a Korean TV adaptation of the Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango. He played as Yoon Ji-Hoo, the gentlest and quietest soul among the group of four rich boys. Most unfortunately though, Kim Hyun Joong seems to be nothing like that in real life. In his recent media interview regarding his assault case, he said that he did get in an argument with Miss A, which eventually escalated to a physical fight, but he doesn’t remember where he hit her or how many times. The police claimed though that it wasn’t just a slap that he gave her, but rather much more severe than that. I’ll say. You don’t end up in a hospital for two weeks with just a simple slap or two.
There is just no excuse for a man to beat up a woman. The fact that he is actually well-built and his girlfriend looks so puny, there’s just no way that he could just be defending himself from her physical advances, unless she is a martial arts expert or something. But based on the photos that were released to the media, she has a lot of serious bruises all over her arms, her legs, her chest and her neck. On the other hand, he was generally scathe-free a day after the said incident when he attended a fan event. So yeah, basically it was a one-sided fight, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know who has the edge.
It’s just sad that a lot of his fangirls can’t seem to see through the seriousness of this case. All they can think about is poor Kim Hyun Joong, and that he’s in so much pain right now, and then they go around calling the woman vengeful, publicity-hungry or whatever they want to call her. It’s sad because these fans are girls and women of all ages, and yet because of their blind adoration for him, they are still willing to support him on this case. I’m not saying that they should stop supporting him altogether. They can continue admiring him as an artist. But to actually say and firmly believe that he did nothing wrong with his ex-girlfriend is just plain delusional. Some are even saying that it’s just a one-time thing, which therefore makes it forgivable. That’s just really plain stupid. One time is actually more than enough. There shouldn’t even be a one time.
I really don’t care about Kim Hyun Joong. I don’t fancy him or anything. I even think he is a bad actor. I just hope that he will be man enough to admit to all the things that he did and apologize for them. I also hope he gets penalized well for what he did because a man beating up a woman is just a monstrous act for me. All the best too to Miss A. I hope she gets the justice she deserves and not get swayed by monetary compensations.
